In recent years, coking companies in China have actively taken up new role as natural gas suppliers by turning their coal gas into natural gas.

By 2022.12, over 106 coal to SNG projects (NOT include Coal Gas Methanation Projects) are planned in China with 36.18+ bcm total annual coal gas treatment capacity and 18.8+ bcm total annual natural gas output capacity. Among them, 55 projects were commissioned with 17.9+ bcm total annual coal gas treatment capacity and 7.3+ bcm total annual natural gas output capacity, which is about 3.03% of China's natural gas consumption in 2017. Taking the product price and pipeline access possibility into consideration, 90% of the coal gas methanation projects also plan to liquefy their gas to LNG.
